Why Many Women Struggle to Access Business Finance

For many women, starting or growing a business is not the biggest challenge. The real challenge is getting access to the money needed to expand their ideas.

Traditional financial institutions often require collateral, bank statements, guarantors, or credit histories before approving loans. Unfortunately, many hardworking women, especially those in the informal sector, do not have these requirements, even though they have successful businesses.

Many women operate from local markets, roadside shops, or from their homes. They earn daily income but remain excluded from formal financial systems because their businesses are not fully documented.

As a result, they struggle to purchase equipment, increase stock, employ workers, or take advantage of new business opportunities.

This financial gap continues to slow the growth of women-owned businesses and limits their contribution to economic development.

At WOMSAB, we believe that every hardworking woman deserves access to financial opportunities regardless of her banking status. Through alternative financing, cooperative savings (Ajo/Esusu), financial education, and business support, we are helping women build stronger businesses and more secure futures.
